An Electrical Engineering Manager (EEM) is a statutory position derived from the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (‘the Act’) and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2001 (‘the Regulation’). The EEM is required under Section 18 of the Regulation. The appointed person has the necessary competencies required under Section 17 of the Regulation. The legislative source varies depending on the type of coal mining: Underground Coal Mining: Section 60 (10) of the act requires a ‘person to control and manage the electrical engineering activities’ of the underground coal mine. Surface Coal Mining: Division 2 Section 111 of the regulation states ‘If electricity is proposed to be used in coal mining operations at a surface mine, the site senior executive must appoint a person to control and manage the mine’s electrical engineering activities’. (The total cost to complete all  EEM Underground competencies with Volt Edge is $10,000.00)
COURSE DETAILS – Develop, Plan & Manage (3 day Course – with assessments to be completed post training) : Unit of Competency gained upon successful completion inc pre-requisite:    UEENEEM047A – Develop and manage maintenance programs for hazardous areas electrical equipment – coal mining Pre-requisite:  Granting competency in this unit shall be made after or concurrently with confirming competency in any one of the following units: UEENEEM027A –  Maintain equipment in hazardous areas coal mining  OR UEENEEM080A –  Report on the integrity of explosion-protected equipment in a hazardous area  AND Competencies in developing and managing general electrical/instrumentation maintenance programs at AQF 4 or equivalent An example is (but not limited to): UEENEEE110A –  Develop and implement energy sector maintenance programs
UEENEEM074A – Plan electrical installations in hazardous areas – Coal mining Pre-requisite:  UEENEEM023A –  Install explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems coal mining  OR Competencies in planning general electrical/instrumentation installations at AQF4 or equivalent. Examples are (but not limited to): UEENEEG125A –  Plan electrical installations with a low voltage demand up to 400 A per phase or UEENEEI112A –  Verify compliance and functionality of instrumentation and control installations
UEENEEM078A – Manage compliance of hazardous areas Pre-requisite: PMASUP410A –  Develop plant documentation
