Certificate II in Split Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems UEE20120 Funded in Victoria

This program is funded by the Victorian Government through Solar Victoria’s Electrification Skills Program.
Course Description
This course covers the installation, commissioning and decommissioning of single head split air conditioning and heat pump systems to a prescribed routine, where the maximum plant capacity does not exceed 18 kW per system. You will gain the skills to assemble, position and start up single head split system air conditioning units including wall hung, floor and ceiling suspended, cassette, ducted fan coil split systems and water heating heat pump systems. Please note: This qualification excludes competencies for service, repair, maintenance, diagnostic and fault finding, electrical work, and the installation of commercial refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump plant and equipment.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for this fully funded course you must meet the following criteria and reside in Victoria:
- Licenced Electricians
- Qualified Plumbers or Gas Fitters*
- 4th Year Electrical Apprentice*
- Non-Electrical Workers*

Course Structure and Delivery
Theory – Online Self-Paced: Theory assessments are completed online and self-paced prior to attending the face to face practical training. There are three separate online written assessments to be completed before your practical course date.
Practical – Face to Face (up to 3 days): Days 1 and 2 are completed at our training centre in Thomastown, where you will complete your first installation sign-off.
Day 3 covers your second installation sign-off under the supervision of your trainer and assessor. Scheduling for Day 3 will be confirmed by your trainer during Days 1 and 2 – we recommend keeping your schedule flexible.
Before You Attend: Students must apply for an in-class Arctick licence prior to attending the practical training days. Please be aware this licence can take up to two weeks to process – we strongly recommend applying as early as possible after enrolment.
What You Will Learn
Upon successful completion, students will have the skills to:
- Fabricate tubing and attach fittings for refrigeration and air conditioning systems
- Assemble, install and start up split air conditioning and water heating heat pump systems
- Decommission split air conditioning and water heating heat pump systems
- Test single head split air conditioning and water heating heat pump systems and document outcomes
- Recover refrigerants, pressure test, leak test, evacuate and charge split systems
- Follow and contribute to a personal competency development plan
- Complete and report on refrigerant recovery, pressure testing, leak testing, evacuation and charging work.
**It is your responsibility to check your states requirements to ensure that you are able to receive the outcome you are wanting to achieve.
Licensing Outcomes
Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to apply for your Arctick licence to handle refrigerant gas.
For eligibility to install split system air conditioners in Victoria, you will need to contact the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) directly regarding licensing requirements. Your application will be assessed individually by the VBA.
It is your responsibility to confirm your state licensing requirements and ensure this course will deliver the outcome you are seeking before enrolling.
Qualification Outcome
Successful students will be awarded a nationally recognised qualification: Certificate II in Split Air Conditioning and Heat Pump Systems (UEE20120)
